BIKING ON
THE WORLDS HIGHEST
ROADS Soaring thousands of meters above the pollution, heat and chaos of India’s plains, the Himalayas stand a world apart from any other Indian territory. Prayer flags snap in the wind on high passes and villages lie marooned amongst spectacular mountain scenery, linked by kilometers of challenging roads that have only been open to foreigners since the 1980s, we as Indian take pride on exploring the best biking ground on earth. Well below zero degrees Celsius on most of the places on the way gets the adrenaline pumping every time we visit. The experience of riding on such high ground is a world apart from normal condition. Lack of oxygen, the temperature and challenging terrain combined to form the riding experience of a life time. The route taken to explore these places are via Manali and goes all the way to the Leh City. Until the 1962 China - India war , Leh was one of the major crossroads of Arsis , and a stopping point on the ancient migration routes of Trans-Himalayan , connecting Central Asia with the Indian sub-continent. The people who live in Leh & Ladakh established Ladakhi’s long religious and cultural heritage. The main tourism spots are the Gompas and The City Leh. Now a days bikers from other parts of the country have start exploring the region, armed with information regarding the terrain and cameras, this new breed of bikers are not scared of such rides. The most common sight across would be Indian Army, they help every one who is in need and would never leave you behind be it an Indian or a foreigner in such places. The languages heard in Leh Bazaar are Ladakhi, Urdu, Hindi, English and others from India and around the world. ROAD TO LEH - LADHAK
